Soft valves cause " mushrooming" at less than 20k miles leading to misfiring then complete engine failure due to overheating. Dogleg gearbox so poorly designed that when cold first gear impossible to select

And yet I still want that POS italian fwd car. Probably because I'd never drive it; just park it in my living room, where a TV would be, and start it up every so often to rev the engine, then turn it off and hope it didn't leave a puddle underneath...

I wonder how common those problems are. Could easily be down to manufacturing defects, which were far from a Fulvia exclusive back then.

Metallurgy issues tend to come and go over years. Some Fulvias may have the valve problems vs. some being spared, but the production was short enough I'd expect any having them to mean a significant number. I don't think e.g. all Rover V8s have soft cams, but a large number do, and a lot of the more fun models. Go back into the 3.5s, and probably fewer of them were affected than the 90s runs of everything else.

Aww, did you do it? I know wikipedia is about facts but I whoever wrote that probably wasn't too far from the truth. It sure was funny.
